The Airdrie Animal Clinic had a peculiar visitor hop into their clinic two weeks ago for treatment.

Rooby the Kangaroo, a 4-year-old red Kangaroo, was brought to Airdrie Animal Clinic for treatment for her fractured tibial medial malleolus in her right hind leg on June 30. Mike Shepard, along with his wife, from Cobbs Adventure Park brought Rooby in.

The incident Head Registered Veterinary Technologist, Haley George, says the injury has happened from being in the pen with other kangaroos or bumping it hard against something.

The operation on the little kangaroo took three hours with Dr. Mark Fuller, Dr. Monica Kovacs, and Haley George carrying it out. The surgery included putting plates and screws into the bone site and bandaging up Rooby.

George described Rooby as “a sweet little kangaroo, super calm and used to being handled. It’s really kind of like having another dog here”.

George praised the Shephard’s for their handling of Rooby saying that due to Rooby being so calm and well-mannered, they didn’t have to give Rooby sedatives during the X-rays.

The Clinic says that this isn’t the first exotic animal that they have had in. They’ve worked on porcupines, snakes, reptiles, sugar gliders, and many more interesting animals.

George shouts out Dr. Monica Kovacs and Dr. Mark Fuller for the great work they did on Rooby to get her back to 100 per cent, as well as the Shephard’s and the rest of the team that make sure these surgeries go successfully.

Rooby will now be happily hopping away at Cobbs Adventure Park for the rest of the summer.
