St.Martin de Porres High School held their 4th Annual Kodiaks Human Fooseball Kick The Stigma tournament last night (April 19th).

Over 250 people participated in the tournament. Two tournament pools were set up, one for students in grades 8 & 9 which had a total of 9 teams and another for grade 10,11,12 which had a total of 15 teams.

One of those students, Reid Glatz, says it was amazing to see everyone participating.

"Having the whole school come together and participate and have the sense of community is great, as well as all the fundraising behind it. its just good to see."

The Human Foosball tournament started four years ago in hopes to raise mental health awareness and "Kick The Stigma" towards mental health issues.

Students built teams with 6-10 players, each team paid a $25 entry fee and were required to use fundraising packages given by the school to raise a minimum of  $250 for Community Links.  The games took place in the gymnasium using an inflatable Foosball arena that holds two teams of 6 at a time. Each player is attached to a rope that restricts their movement so they can only move left and right. Each game played takes around six minutes to finish with a one-minute break for substitutions.

St Martin de Porres Principal Greg Masterson says he's proud of how his students have gotten behind the project.

"The energy in the building is just amazing, our students are really behind this, four years ago we looked for a way to give back to our community and this is what we came up with, and we have had a lot of fun with it."

One of the two winning teams of the event included the "Super Mario Strikers"

The other term from the grade 8 &9 division winners were named  Foos Loops.

Rough estimations put the total money raised somewhere around $7000; the all-time record is 8000.
