Members of the ten teams that make up the Airdrie Ladies Fastball League will be taking to the fields at Chinook Winds Park this weekend for their annual mid-season tournament.

League Vice-President Christy Kajmowicz says this year's tournament has a different spin to it.

"This year we formed a social committee and tried to raise money for our league, we always need money and we need to try and promote it and get more players out every year.  So we're kind of using this weekend to promote our league and let people in Airdrie know about it."

Kajmowicz says the league has grown this year.

"We grew two teams so we have ten teams this year.  We've been staying consistent with seven, eight over the last probably seven years.   We want to let the younger teams know that they have somewhere to go after if they don't want to go to Calgary, and they want to play competitive ball they can play in Airdrie.  So we're using this weekend as a time for those younger women to come up and play with us for fun this weekend."

Kajmowicz says they have a few things going on in conjunction with the tournament.

"We're going to do a 50-50 on Saturday, we're going to have a ball drop, kinda similar to a puck drop at a hockey game and we're also going to do a donation for the Airdrie Food Bank at the entrance.  So if people want to come down they have lots of things they can get involved with and watch lots of ball."

The round robin portion of the tourney starts this evening (Friday) at 6:15 pm and continues until Sunday when the semi finals are set for 1:30pm, followed by the final at 3:30pm.
