The Airdrie Lightning struggled against opponents from Calgary in two AFHL games this weekend.

The Lightning started the weekend with a home game against the Calgary Fire Red on Saturday (January 13). The Fire Red managed to get ahead early with three goals in the first period. Sarah Nusl, assisted by Madison Black and Maddi Schulz, responded just under 16 minutes into the second period. That was Airdrie's only goal in the game, but the Fire Red managed to get one more off in the third period to win 4-1.

The Lightning didn't have much time to turn around, facing the Calgary Fire White on Sunday (January 14). Airdrie opened the scoring with an unassisted goal from Emma Hoppins 16:45 into the first period. Calgary tied things up just over eight minutes into the second period, but Airdrie regained the lead with a goal from Jolin Bischke, assisted by Taylor Seegmiller. That lead didn't last long, with the Fire White scoring three minutes later to leave things tied going into the second intermission. The teams remained deadlocked for most of the third period until, with just over four minutes left in the game, Calgary scored to win 3-2.

After the two losses, the Lightning now sit tied with the Fire White for second place in the AFHL's south division with an 11-5-1 record.
