At 9:08 P.M. there were reports of a lightning strike that blew a transformer off of Edmonton Trail in Airdrie.

According to Airdrie's Fire Department, a call was received at 9:14 P.M. for what was deemed an 'explosion'. Once crews were on the scene and no fire was seen, Fortis crews took over. Fire crews departed at approximately 9:48 P.M. this evening, with Fortis leaving shortly thereafter. 

The power outage was resolved within the hour and affected several communities in the area, with reports of lights flickering on and off for some time.
