A group of local teenagers is on a mission to spread as much positivity as they can.

Josiah Raguindin, Onimisi Sule, Jonathan Mendez-Young, and Caleb Quash are part of Project Positivity, based out of their school Airdrie Christian Academy.

The group was started when the boys were in Grade 7 and soon they will be heading into 10th grade.

"Our goal is to spread positivity everywhere we go," says Raguindin,14. "How we do that in the school is we have positivity boards everywhere around the school, and on those positivity boards people are able to write encouraging notes that are related to our monthly themes."

Raguindin says the group wanted to do more outside the school.

"In the Summer of 2019 we chose to start doing bigger things, so that's when we started fundraising a lot. It helped us do feeding programs in the Philippines and do homeless outreaches. In 2020 we really wanted to go further."

The COVID-19 pandemic has made fundraising difficult for many organizations, including Raguindin's group so he says they were thrilled when Paul's Pizza reached out and wanted to donate through their 'Pizza for a Purpose' campaign. Thanks to the money, Project Positivity was able to donate to the Airdrie Food Bank and Bread Beyond Borders in Rocky View County.

Raguindin's mom Rowena says the pandemic pushed her son and his friends to help out in the community and spread positivity even more.

"Really warms my heart because instead of them spending the money for themselves, they’ve thought of helping out," she says.

Raguindin says they plan to continue paying it forward as much as possible and will be holding more events in school once they are back in class in hopes of inspiring fellow students.

Project Positivity is also planning to do another homeless outreach to people in need. Raguindin says they did their first one in December and that was when the group really felt the impact of what they are doing for the first time.

"Afterwards we shared our favourite moments and [we] spoke about how much it meant to [us]. It's just amazing and it really feels good, but we're also really blessed that we're able to do this."
