A couple local hockey players had big moments last weekend as the preseason got underway for the Western Hockey League.

Former Xtreme and AAA Bison star Barrett Sheen scored three goals in his first two games last weekend for the Kootenay Ice.

On Saturday night (September 9th), the Ice faced the defending WHL Champion the Seattle Thunderbirds and took the game 5-3, thanks to two goals from Sheen.

Sheen also scored once in their previous game against the Portland Winterhawks, but his team fell 8-3.

Meanwhile, local goalie Kurtis Chapman saw some action for the Regina Pats on Friday, playing 26 minutes and making 20 saves in a 4-2 loss against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The preseason continues tonight when Sheen and the Ice face the Tri City Americans, just after 8pm.
