At the most recent Airdrie City Council meeting a presentation was brought forward from the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) and Tracy Osborne.

Tracy Osborne is making a substantial donation to the Airdrie Fire Department to help with emergency response times.

Fire Chief Kevin Weinberger alongside Osborne made the presentation to City Council talking about what her generous donation will go towards.

“Back in November council made a notice of motion that was brought forward regarding emergency response and a donation made from a citizen and Airdrie Council directed the administration to work with parties involved and examine a "Made in Airdrie Solution" of how we can assist Alberta Health Services. With some of their challenges on extended response times.”

Though it will take some time to put together, Osborne’s donation will equip the AFD with multiple items to create the “Made in Airdrie solution”:

  • Expansion kits to Crash Kelly mannequins, (they will provide training on visual injury injuries, procedures, IV therapies, Airdrie right now owns three of these kits and will allow training to occur in all stations).

  • Addition of a birthing simulator, (AFD currently rents or borrows this type of Prop, but owning our own will be much more flexible).

  • Addition of a full-body neonatal simulator, (allows training and development for neonatal procedures).

  • Addition of a full-body child simulator, (allows training and development for procedures on children).

  • creation of a high-fidelity hands-on simulation lab, (which will emphasize realistic skill development for our staff).

  • Additional equipment to enhance our current primary care paramedic level of service in conjunction with our medical direction.

“All these above will allow for a more immersive experience and provide the opportunity to interact with patients and perform advanced procedures. This donation will provide the best use of funding and will benefit the greatest number of responders over a longer period of time. The training prompts can be reused and require minimal maintenance.”

After many heartfelt messages from all of City Council and Mayor Brown, City Council voted to accept the presentation for information and are very thankful for Tracy Osborne and her donation to help create the “Made in Airdrie Solution”.
