Meadowlark Trail, a non-motorized pathway connecting the communities of Beiseker and Irricana is nearing its completion as construction wraps up on the project that has been in the works for the last five years.

The only thing left to complete is putting up a security cage for a trestle that belongs to CN to protect it, Richter says.

The path hopes to serve the surrounding communities by being a safe place for walking, jogging, biking and strollers to promote fitness and healthy living as well as a route for students to bike to school in Beiseker, Jeannette Richter the chairperson for the trail says.

“The trail is a wonderful opportunity for young adults to get out into nature and get physically fit and for the two communities to cement friendships and go back and forth."

The trail was made possible by a 1.5-million-dollar grant that was approved for the trail by Trans Canada Trail funding and Alberta Trail Net, Richter says.

Richter says she hopes for the opening to happen in late fall, “I want to make sure that harvest and our neighbours who are neighbours to the trail can attend the opening, as during harvest it is full bore work here for the farming community”.

Going forward the trail committee will be holding events to help with the costs of maintenance of the trail.
