Meals On Wheels have been operating for thirty-six years in Airdrie and the program would not be possible without the outstanding support of the community.

On February 20th members of the Meals on Wheels attended a cheque presentation at Davis Chevrolet.

The cheque was given to them as part of Davis Chevrolet's "Five Pillars" program where the dealership chooses five major not for profit organizations within the city to support.

The cheque presented was $750 dollars and Lois Jones with Meals On Wheels says they are so thankful for these organizations that support them.

"This is huge for the fact that we are run by volunteers and not everyone can afford the service so by giving us this cash donation we can provide meals to more people."

The Meals on Wheels organization sees people at sometimes their lowest point and for many that depend on this service is a small thing that goes a long way.

"This service is needed within the City of Airdrie there are a lot of people that cannot shop, cook and a nutritious meal at an affordable cost. There are people that are coming out of cancer treatments or senior citizens that rely on us to get their nutrition and social wellness check."

Davis Chevrolet makes monthly donations the organization and the amount donated with fluctuate dependent on vehicle sales.

Jessica Jacobs with Davis says its important for the community and businesses to rally around our local organizations.

"I think it's our responsibility for all of us as citizens and businesses to be involved in our community that way its really important, we have all been there and at some point in our lives we all need a helping hand."
