The Province of Alberta reached a significant milestone in the fight against COVID-19 on Friday (June 4).

Between Alberta Health Services (AHS), community pharmacies and physician clinics, the province has delivered over 3 million doses of COVID-19 into Albertan arms since beginning the vaccine rollout.

More than 66 percent of people eligible for the shot have now received at least one vaccine dose while 13 percent have been fully immunized with two doses.

"Crossing the 3 million dose milestone means we are that much closer to being open for summer," according to Premier Jason Kenney.  "As more Albertans continue to step up and get vaccinated, we can all look forward to brighter days ahead."

A total of 3,013,555 doses of the vaccine have now been administered.  Albertans who received their first dose of the vaccine in March are now able to book their second dose.  Starting June 14th those vaccinated in April can book a second shot with those first immunized in May being allowed to book second shots starting June 28th.

A single dose of vaccine offers at least 80 percent protection against severe COVID-19 outcomes, including hospitalization and death but a second dose is needed to get the best and most long-lasting protection against the virus.

You can book an appointment through AHS online or through 811 or book at one of the many participating pharmacies.

Yesterday 293 new cases of the virus were reported in the province with now 5,017 active cases.  That's down 398 cases since Friday.

Hospitalizations in the province continue to drop, falling six to 373.  The number of patients in ICU fell to 105, down three from Friday.  Sadly three more people lost their lives battling the coronavirus.

Airdrie continues to do well in active cases but is lagging behind the province in the percentage of people vaccinated.  Active cases fell to 82 yesterday which represents 17 less than Friday's numbers.  Just 51 percent of Airdronians have been vaccinated according to figures from the province.

In Rocky View County active cases fell by two from the previous day to 54.
