If you noticed that over the weekend there were quite a few impressive motorcycles cruising through Airdrie, you're not alone. The Harley Davidson Rally in the Rockies was held at the Airdrie Airpark on Saturday.

According to Aleksandra Bulat, Customer Experience and PR Lead for Harley-Davidson Canada, the event was spurred by the need to do something not only to rekindle a sense of community among motorcycle enthusiasts and riders but to also share their passion with the community.

"We wanted the focus of this to be more on all riders getting together and having a reason to celebrate the sport so that it gives people a reason to ride and get together with one's friends again."

On July 23, riders and motorcycles, as well as enthusiasts and spectators and curious on-lookers rode into Airdrie for the Rally in the Rockies. Hundreds of motorbikes with different styles, designs, and colours could be admired at the Airdrie Airpark. But the event wasn't just about looking at motorcycles. Those who went to the event could partake in a demo ride, watch a thrilling drag race, and even the kids could try out electric bikes. For those who wanted to get some shopping done, there were plenty of vendor stalls as well as local food trucks.

"It's not just motorcycle focused, there are coffee companies, there are local jewellers. We really wanted to focus on local talent as well."

One of the highlights of the day was the Billy Kohut Freestyle FMX show. Kohut, an Alberta local wowed the crowd with heart-stopping tricks that saw him soaring through the air on his dirtbike.

Bulat said that while the public may have a very definite image of what a biker looks like, the sense of community within the motorcycle groups is both inspiring and heartwarming.

"I think that it's refreshing, that, that you're welcomed with open arms, whether you're a rider or not. People want to tell you their story about how they got into it, saying, 'my uncle rode, or my dad used to ride in this before I got into it.' I think it's very pure in that sense."
