Keep an eye out this week as multiple Airdrie schools within Rocky View Schools (RVS) that will be participating in the Terry Fox Run.

Students and school staff partake in the annual event to fundraise for cancer research.

“Every year, thousands of RVS students celebrate the legacy of Terry Fox, a national hero who exemplified courage, resilience, perseverance and determination both in his Marathon of Hope and his journey with cancer,” said Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach. “As we reflect on what Terry was able to accomplish during his life, we hope our students will learn the value of these attributes for their own lives.”

According to RVS, these events provide students with an opportunity to engage in physical activity as they run, walk, skip, hop or roll along the event route. Through fundraising efforts, students also learn about the importance of community involvement. By getting students outdoors and moving, our schools are able to create an engaging and healthy learning opportunity outside the classroom.

Schools in Airdrie that are taking part in the event, among other RVS schools are:

  • George McDougall High School - Last Friday, September 15
  • Heloise Lorimer School - Last Friday, September 15
  • Windsong Heights School - September 20
