The Football season is officially done for Airdrie High Schools teams after Friday's Championship game (October 27th).

The George McDougall Mustangs were looking to exact revenge on Springbank, who beat them 43-0 in their season opener on September 15th.

The game was held at 16-8 for quite a while before Springbank ran away with a 30-8 victory.

Co-Head coach Chris Glass says the final score didn't reflect how well the team played.

"We had our opportunities to do what we could to tie the game up. It was close going into the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter. What I told the guys at the end of the day, if you could look yourself in the mirror and say you've given everything you could and did everything you could do to win the game and you came up short, there's nothing wrong with that."

Glass says the loss was especially hard for the graduating players and their families, who hoped for more celebration after Friday night.

"There was a lot of people really upset that this was going to be the last time this team, this particular team, was together. We did bond incredibly and I haven't seen something like that in a lot of years."

Despite the loss, Glass says he's proud of the team and what they were able to accomplish despite the injuries they incurred to top players including Josh Seaman early in the season and starting Quarterback Maxime Longchamps in the regular season finale.

Some of the greatest moments from the year came in their games against Airdrie's other teams.

"Winning Airdrie Bowl again with a much improved Bert Church team. To win that again was huge," says Glass, "Beating Croxford twice, knowing how well coached they are and how strong they've put an emphasis on their program."

The Mustangs are looking to be just as competitive for next season, with the coaching staff expecting 33 players to return.
