With one game played for each of the George McDougall Mustang squads, Tim Masse said the teams know where they need to put in work.

"The Mustangs have had one game so far this season. Not so good in three of the four," said Masse. "Things we needed to work on definitely came up, and things we were strong on showed themselves as well."

Three of the Mustang teams fell in games against Chestermere this week, with only the senior boys securing a win against the Lakers.

Masse pointed to young teams and a relative lack of experience as the reason.

"The JV teams, both the boys and the girls, are fairly young. It's a pretty even split, but I know we have a couple of grade tens that did not play last year on both squads. They're pretty young teams and they're learning quickly but they need to learn quite a bit."

Masse said the varsity boys, due to a strong core of returning players and an infusion of young talent, are the most ready to compete.

"The varsity boys have a fairly experienced group. They lost some height from last year, they still have some height this year and they have some quick guards that came up from the JV team. So they're gonna be pretty balanced and I think their first game of the year kinda showed that. They're probably our most ready team to play right now."
