The Edmonton Oil Kings and Airdronian Jake Neighbours suffered a loss against the Shawinigan Cataractes in their first match of the Memorial Cup 4-3.

In the first period the Cataractes and Oil Kings each scored one goal, Jordan Tourigny for the Cataractes and Luke Prokop for the Oil Kings.

Heading into the second frame there was a little more action. Tyler Horstmann for the Oil Kings put his team up 2-1 early in the period. Later on Cataractes player, Xavier Bourgault was able to put one behind the Oil Kings netminder to tie the game up at 2 a piece. Right before the end of the period, Cole Miller put the Oil Kings back up by a score of 3-2.

Early into the fourth period, the Cataractes scored two goals to retake the lead 4-3 thanks to Pierrick Dubé and Olivier Nadeau. The Oil Kings were held scoreless for the rest of the game and ended up losing 4-3.

Airdronian and Captain Jake Neighbours was held off the score sheet in his first Memorial Cup game.

Up next on the Oil Kings schedule is a game on Wednesday against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
