According to the city of Airdrie, there were multiple calls to 9-1-1 at around 4:04 P.M. on Tuesday to alert them to a structure fire in the community of Hillcrest.

“Airdrie Fire Department crews arrived at the scene on Hillcrest Terrace to find the two-story structure fully involved,” stated a press release.

However, there were no injuries reported and the occupants of the house were able to safely evacuate.

“The fire has been deemed under control but crews will remain on scene for some time to monitor hot spots. Gas and power in the area were shut off for a short time but have since been restored."

The fire was contained to the home of origin with some damage to the siding and roof material of adjacent properties.

There will also be an ongoing road closure in the immediate area which will disrupt traffic into the evening as crews complete their work.

The city is also reminding residents that the area around an active fire incident is not a safe place for bystanders.

“It’s important for residents and neighbours to stay indoors and away from the scene for their own safety and that of our firefighters.”

Nearby residents were asked to close windows and to stay inside due to heavy smoke conditions.

An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is underway.
