One person was killed while two more were taken to hospital in Calgary after a collision this afternoon near the intersection of Highway 567 and Range Road 285 east of Airdrie.

In a media release issued around 8:00 P.M. RCMP said their preliminary investigation shows that a 17 year old female was driving eastbound when she lost control of her vehicle when weather turned bad. Her vehicle then entered the path of a westbound vehicle, resulting in the collision.

Tragically, Mounties said the young driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two elderly persons in the second vehicle were transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

STARS Air Ambulance airlifted an elderly man while a woman was taken to hospital by ground ambulance. Both were taken to the Foothills Medical Centre.

RCMP say the road has been reopened.
