"Wildlife" is a story that mixed the early 1900s, a comet, home sickness, and finding a way to live a life out of context. It's also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short at the 2012 Oscars.

Airdrie resident Brent Planiden, with Calgary's Twisted Pair Sound, worked on the project as the Sound Editor says it's a huge honor for the local production.

"Wendy (Tilby) was keeping everyone in the loop of the whole thing. Pretty much when she found out, she sent out a mass email to everyone," recalled Planiden. "The email went out probably a minute or two after she found out. The whole production team got to know right away."

Planiden says it was thanks to previous work with the National Film Board that got Twisted Pair Sound involved on the project.

It's unknown if Twisted Pair Sound will be joining directors Tilby and Amanda Forbis in Hollywood for the Gala.

"We'll see where we're at. We're really busy right now. If we have the time, it seems like something we all want to do, then we'll probably take the trip down at least to be a part and to support Wendy and Amanda."

Planiden kept his cards pretty close to his chest when it came to projects coming up for the group. He did spill details on a show they're working on for CMT called "Employee of the Week", and a TV movie with Danny Glover and Billy Zane called "Hannah's Law".

He did say that having an Oscar nominated project will be a boost internally, but also is a great marketing tool that could put a spotlight locally on production done here in Alberta.
