You can expect an increase of about eight cents per litre at Airdrie's gas stations as soon as this afternoon.

You've been enjoying the low gas prices for a few months, and now it's time to say goodbye to cheap gas and say sorry to your wallet.

Gas is expected to increase very soon in Alberta and Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst at Gasbuddy.com shares some important advice.

"I would urge all drivers who are seeing gas at 88 or 87 cents per litre to fill up quickly because this afternoon you're likely to see more and more stations here in Airdrie move up to the 98 or 99 cent range."

Drivers are urged to take this warning and save themselves as much as 8 or 9 cents per litre.

McTeague says that the low prices we've been seeing at the pumps can be attributed to the low oil prices, as well as gas stations taking their retail operating margins and discounting them to keep market share and to keep customers happy.

McTeague says drivers may see prices jump as early as this afternoon.

"You're going to see gas prices trek up to 98 cents per litre at the very least, perhaps a little higher as retailers try to recoup those losses given what's happened not longer term, but for oil to do a u-turn and start to make gains in terms of prices so that by the time we get to springtime, you could be looking at prices that are anywhere from ten to fifteen cents per litre higher."

In other words, it's time to fill up.
