At today's Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustee meeting, it was announced how many modular classrooms the division will receive.

As of March 14, the Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations received correspondence from Alberta Education approving nine new modular classrooms and one washroom relocation.

Northcott Praire School in Airdrie was to receive six of the modular units. Fireside School in Cochrane was to receive three and the one washroom unit was to be relocated from Herons Crossing School to North Cott Praire School, both within Airdrie.

As the decision deadline approaches at the end of April regarding Airdrie's student space allocation, RVS Superintendent of Schools Greg Luterbach, emphasized the importance of determining the specific locations for the modular units once the decision is finalized.

"We know the list, now we [have] got to go back and figure out where best to put them. We needed 35 and we got 10. We need to make sure that we're using those 10 to the very best of our ability."

Luterbach stated the last thing they would want to do is allocate the six modular classrooms to Northcott Praire School, make changes when it comes to balancing Airdrie student spaces and then have to change things around once again.

RVS asked for a total of 22 new modular units, 12 relocations and one bathroom unit relocation.

The modular units that RVS requested was not a wishlist, it was to help schools that are in need of temporary space, according to Luterbach.

Just recently, it was announced Airdrie will see full construction funding for two new K-8 schools. These schools will hopefully be built within the next few years.

According to RVS, they see an increase of 750 to 1,000 new students annually.
