Airdrie RCMP have charged a 21-year-old Airdrie man with Resisting a Peace Officer, Causing a Disturbance and Possession of a Controlled Substance following an incident earlier this week at Hi Ho Gas and Grocery on Meadowbrook Drive.

According to police, on Sunday, February 18th around 4:50 pm, they were called to the area of East Lake Boulevard and Meadowbrook Drive to reports of a man jumping up and down and yelling in the middle of the street.  He was disrupting traffic and was deemed to be a safety concern.

When RCMP arrived on the scene they located the man in the washroom at Hi Ho Gas and Grocery where he showed signs of abnormal behaviour.  Police believed he was impaired by some sort of drug or alcohol.

While talking to the man to try to identify him and find out if he had consumed any intoxicants, he became agitated and was placed under arrest.  The man was taken to the ground when he began to kick his feet at officers while refusing to place his hands behind his back.

Additional RCMP officers on scene assisted in the arrest as the man refused to comply with police commands.  In the altercation caused by the man, an RCMP officer sustained minor injuries to his hand.

The male was eventually restrained, handcuffed and transported back to the Airdrie RCMP detachment where he was charged.

The Airdrie  RCMP said they won't be releasing his identity.
