RCMP is warning the public of poor road conditions along Highway 2 between Red Deer and Airdrie.

"Black ice, freezing rain and changing conditions are affecting visibility and surface traction on the road. Additional reports of poor road conditions are identified in the detachment areas of Redcliff and Strathmore," an RCMP press release stated. "Please be cautious if you are travelling in the area."

The RCMP around central and southern Alberta are responding to various motor vehicle collisions on Highway 1 east of Strathmore. RCMP advises that road conditions may deteriorate with the change in weather patterns.

Airdrie continues to be under a fog advisory warning. Environment Canada is advising motorists that areas of dense fog have developed in areas north and east of the Calgary metro area with some drizzle also present in these fog patches, which could freeze on surfaces that remain below zero. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

"If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance."

Highway conditions south of Airdrie on the QEII highway are bare and wet, however, visibility remains poor with freezing rain, rain, and fog being reported. Heading Northbound, conditions on the QEII also remain icy, with reports of black ice in some areas, though visibility is fair.

The fog and drizzle will dissipate by later this evening.
