RCMP are reminding everyone to be extra careful on area highways, particularly with the return of winter driving conditions.

Everyone should also make sure they are prepared when they head out on the roads; keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle.

Here's a list of what emergency officials recommend you have in your car at all times:

  • A cell phone and recharger
  • List of important phone numbers (family, doctors, towing companies)
  • Ice scraper and brush
  • Booster cables
  • Road maps
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Blanket
  • First-aid kit
  • Extra windshield washer fluid and antifreeze
  • Sand or salt
  • A collapsible shovel

The Alberta Motor Assocation also has information on their website about how to get your vehicle ready for winter:   www.ama.ab.ca/westworld/?/articles/warming_up_for_winter/

If you really want to ensure you're ready for winter driving, the AMA also offers a winter driving course.

And you can always check on discoverairdrie.com before you head out for road reports and the latest weather update. It's all about being prepared.
