New school bus riders and their parents/guardians have a new resource at hand with the launch of a first-ride video from Rocky View Schools (RVS).

The brief film explains what to expect and how to keep safe while riding the school bus for both students and their parents/guardians. The students' journey from home to school on the bus can be followed by viewers. Along with other crucial facts that every bus passenger should be aware of, safety advice such as avoiding the bus danger zone is covered.

Additionally, My First Ride, a live event for new bus users offered by RVS bus contractors, is being held by RVS. On August 22 or 23, families are invited to the no-cost event to learn more about school buses and experience a brief bus ride. Staff from the school division and the bus contractor will be on hand to address any inquiries.

The events will take place at the RVS Education Centre, 2651 Chinook Winds Drive SW, Airdrie. Please email transportation@rockyview.ab.ca to register.

“Students may feel excited, nervous, or both when it is time for their first bus ride,” said Morley Kostecky, Senior Manager of Transportation. “Keeping students safe is a joint effort and RVS is committed to doing what we can to prepare our families so that the first ride and all rides are successful.”

The video can be found on the RVS website or on YouTube.

Families are also reminded Aug. 15 is the last day to register for transportation in time to have bus service on the first day of school.
