On Saturday, December 3, the Airdrie Santa Claus Parade will be jingling its way back into the city. The much-loved parade that is a staple to kick off the holiday season has been sorely missed by residents in the city, as well as those organizing it.

Sam Morros, the Chairperson of the Airdrie Parades Committee, said this year's parade will follow the route it has followed in years past and will start at 5 P.M.

"If the last couple of years showed us anything, it's that having the opportunity to gather just beyond the walls of your [own] home and gather as a community at large is so important. We really felt that absence really strongly in the last couple of years," she said. "Christmas and the holidays are all about getting together and celebrating together and we're excited to be able to do that again."

Although Morros wasn't able to divulge any other specifics about the parade, she did underline that every year the parade committee listens very closely to the feedback given by attendees and tries to incorporate it into the next year's celebrations. Some of the feedback from previous Santa Claus parades echoed sentiments that many wished the party could keep going once the parade has ended.

"We're really taking that feedback and running with it this year and fulfilling that goal of connecting the community and being able to create a place where folks can celebrate the holiday," Morros said. "We're just saying welcome to the holiday season; let's light up the night and let's see your holiday spirit!"

Morros added that after the Canada Day parade, the committee realized it was feasible to have the community congregate in a safe and responsible manner, which is why it decision was made to announce the 2022 Santa Claus Parade was green-lit for the holiday season.

As far as the guest of honour is concerned, Morros stated Kris Kringle would of course be in attendance.
