Tragedy continued to plague Alberta's highways on Tuesday, May 1 as two collisions claimed two more lives.

The first collision occurred at approximately 3:40 pm on Highway 567, just west of Symons Valley Road, according to Airdrie RCMP.  An eastbound car appeared to veer into the westbound lane, colliding head on with a semi truck, before breaking into flames, killing the driver of the car instantly.

The driver of the car is believed to be a 50 year-old male from Calgary.  The driver of the semi truck was uninjured.

The second collision was reported to the Strathmore RCMP at approximately 4:10 pm.  A northbound car on Paradise Road, near Chestermere, entered the intersection with Highway 1, and was struck by a mini van.

One child from the rear seat was ejected from the car and transported by STARS to hospital in Calgary.  A second child was pronounced dead at the scene, and a third child was transported by ground ambulance.

The two adults in the front seat were also transported to hospital. The driver, and sole occupant, of the mini van was unharmed.

The status of the transported occupants is not currently known.

As of 8:47 pm Tuesday night, traffic was re-opened at both accident scenes.
