Airdrie resident, Ashwani Chander was sentenced to eight months in prison for two counts of sexual assault, and one count of common assault on November 22 at the Court of King's Bench.

According to court documents, the assaults that he has been convicted of occurred between February 11 and 12, 2017. An appeal against the conviction was dismissed, upholding the original sentence. There was also an appeal to varying the custodial sentence to a conditional sense which was dismissed.

The sexual assaults and common assault Chander has been found guilty of, pre-date another sexual assault case that was brought before the court against him, though he was found not guilty of those charges in April of this year.

Chander was also given an 18-month probation period for the first count of sexual assault.
