Residents are urged to make sure their automobiles are off the street before the City of Airdrie's Roads department starts sweeping residential streets on April 25.

“Look for large orange signs at entrances to your neighbourhood and ensure your vehicle is moved off the street on the dates indicated on the sign,” says Mike Avramenko, Team Leader of Road Operations. “The orange signs are not located on every residential street, only at the main access roads into the community - we like to say watch for the sign to avoid the fine.”

A tag and tow program will once more be used by the City of Airdrie to guarantee a thorough cleaning of Airdrie's roads. Expect to be ticketed and have your car towed if you leave it in the area. Residents are advised to remove any driveway ramps they may have and to park their cars on their driveway or the pad in the back of their garage.

Cleaning the streets is important for residents' safety and for the environment. Winter debris is removed, keeping it out of the storm drains and the city's waterways. In addition, it lessens dust-related air pollution, making spring and summertime activities safer.

“Our ultimate goal is to have residents move their vehicles so that our streets can be swept as efficiently as possible, without towing,” says Avramenko.
