Special Olympics Airdrie has rescheduled its “fun day” after the weather put a damper on the events on May 5th.

The event was cancelled earlier this month due to rain, snow and cooler temperatures, but it has now been re-scheduled for next week.

Fun Day is a chance for children with intellectual disabilities to try out the different spring and summer sports offered by Special Olympics Airdrie.

This year those kids will have a chance to try out softball, golf, soccer and bocce ball.

Sue Farkas-Fillatre said the kids learn and grow so much when they are involved in sport.

“Just the social aspect alone is just absolutely amazing for them, of course, they’re learning a skill with the soccer, but they’re learning team spirit and making new friends as well,” Farkas-Fillatre explained.

“Plus it gives them stability that they know that every Wednesday night they’re going to softball at this time.”

Fun Day will take place in Nose Creek Park on Friday, May 24th from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
