An Airdrie Football team is getting ready to defend their Provincial Championship.

The Airdrie Storm Peewee Football team recently started their outdoor traning sessions and head coach Nolan Rohl is pleased with what he's seen.

"We've had two nights and we've already put in half of our offense and defense is looking good, we've got a lot of talented players out this year. Some big bodies just like we had last year."

Last season, the team not only claimed the Tier II City Championship but the Provincial title.

Coach Rohl says the team has the pieces to repeat as Champions, and they're putting the same practices in place that helped them last year.

"We've already been in training since the first week of January cause we do some other non football related training, balance the kids out and round them out and then when we get into Football, they're a lot safer. We did the same thing last year and we actually finished our first year ever without a single injury."

The team is wearing state of the art helmets this year that are used by many players in the National Football League.

One bright spot for the team this season, literally, is that lights should be ready to be installed on their practice field at Airdrie Koinonia Christian School.

"We've had some very, very good donations and we are pretty much already there. We're just continuing to work on a couple things around the community and make sure that we got everything we need. We'll definitely have lights this year."

The Storm will practicing hard for the next few months before their regular season starts in August.
