Locally filmed show The Last Of Us garnered two more awards on Saturday at the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The Last of Us was nominated for four awards, winning "Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series" and "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series" with Pedro Pascal. Unfortunately, they lost "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series" with Bella Ramsey and "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series". 

The weekend before, at the People Choice Awards, the show won two awards for "The Male TV Star of the Year" with Pedro Pascal and "The Drama Show of the Year".

Back in January, The Last of Us won eight Emmy Awards, those include:

  • Outstanding prosthetic makeup
  • Outstanding special visual effects in a season or a movie
  • Outstanding main title design
  • Outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)
  • Outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)
  • Outstanding picture editing for a drama series
  • Outstanding guest actress in a drama series (Storm Reid as Riley Abel)
  • Outstanding guest actor in a drama series (Nick Offerman as Bill)

The popular series was recorded in the vicinity of Airdrie, making use of over 180 locations in Alberta for the first season.

According to Oxford Economics, the production expenditure for Season One of The Last of Us generated a significant contribution of over $182 million to Alberta's GDP from 2021-2022.

Premiering on January 15, 2023, the show, adapted from the 2013 video game, attracted an audience of nearly 5 million viewers. The season one finale of the show saw 8.2 million viewers tune in. 

Season two of the show has been confirmed, British Columbia will be the pre-dominant location for filming.
