Despite the fight being over for the Stop the Stench movement, it looks like things may take a little longer than originally thought.

The Thorlakson Compost Yard east of Airdrie and just west of Iricana was told by Rocky View Council to stop their work and start cleaning up. They had 90 days to completely remove any waste from the site.

However, it seems like that won't be happening right away. An extension of three months has been announced by Rocky View, making it so the compost yard has until December 11th of this year.

Dennis Geick, leader of the Stop the Stench group said that the news was annoying, but not unexpected.

"(I'm) not really surprised because they had mentioned, even at the day of the council meeting, that 90 days was not a very long time to get rid of all of the compost they had on the site."

However, it seems life has been improving for the Stop the Stench members, despite the summer weather and rain possible increasing any odour.

"It's been actually pretty good ever since the meeting but there is still the odd day that we do get the odour. It's not near the level it was before. You don't have trucks dumping every day."

Geick himself said that he is not overly concerned about the extension and instead has bigger worries

"You know that there is an end in sight. It makes it completely different," said Geick. "I don't think I'm concerned about the extension for the cleanup as I am still concerned about a possible injunction, where they file an injunction and where they have a problem with the actual decision," said Geick. "That's a concern."

However, it seems like things are getting better for the locals of Stop the Stench.

"As far as odour, I'd say it's just a fraction of what it used to be."
