Three players with ties to Airdrie went to battle in the WHL Monday afternoon as the Edmonton Oil Kings hosted the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Jake Neighbours and Keagan Slaney of Airdrie and the Edmonton Oil Kings took on former Airdrie Xtreme player and current Lethbridge Hurricane Jett Jones in a Central Division match-up.

Neighbours added to his impressive year by scoring his 20th goal of the season late in the 3rd period to put a dagger into the Hurricanes chances of coming back in the game. The Hurricanes would score once more in the final minute of the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Oil Kings would take the game 5-3.

Defenseman Slaney was held off the score sheet for the Oil Kings and Centerman Jones was a minus one for the Hurricanes.

The Oil Kings and the Hurricanes look to continue their hot seasons as they are the first two teams from the Central Division to secure a spot in the 2020 WHL playoffs.

Both teams play Wednesday night when the Oil Kings travel to Winnipeg to take on the ICE and the Hurricanes host the Spokane Chiefs.
