The Airdrie Thunder made it exciting last night (October 21) in their Heritage Junior Hockey League game against the Stettler Lightning.

The Thunder built up a 6 - 4 lead in the third period and looked like they were cruising to the finish.  Maybe they shouldn't have put it in cruise control so early though as the Lightning scored twice in the final minute of the third to force overtime.

The Thunder roared out of the gate in overtime after that disappointing let down.  Jacob MacDonald got the winner just :15 seconds into the extra frame to give Airdrie a hard fought 7 - 6 victory.

Dante Raposo was a one man wrecking crew for the Thunder, scoring three goals and two assists for a five point night.

Clay Murray also picked up five points on two goals and three assists.

Rylan Plante-Crough got the other Thunder goal.

Airdrie may be a tired crew as they go into Blackfalds for their third game of the weekend this afternoon.  The Thunder meet the Wranglers for a 3:30 pm match up.

In other HJHL play last night, despite outshooting the Coaldale Copperheads 36 - 23 the Cochrane Generals still lost big time, falling 6 - 1.

Slater Ranson scored the only goal for the Generals who have now lost four straight and fallen to 4 and 6 for the season.
