The Airdrie Thunder and Cochrane Generals each experienced firsts in the 2017 - 2018 Heritage Junior Hockey League season last night (September 29).

The Generals peppered Thunder goaltender Ryan Simpson with 57 shots last night but could only put four pucks past him as the Gens pulled out a 5 - 3 win over the Thunder.  Cochrane also scored a goal into an empty net with Simpson pulled for the extra attacker.

The firsts were the first loss of the season for the Thunder after a pair of opening weekend wins and the first win this year by Cochrane who lost their first two games of the season last weekend.

Eight different players accounted for the eight goals by the two teams.

Both clubs are back in action tonight.  Airdrie travels to Strathmore for an 8:00 pm game against the Wheatland Kings.

Cochrane plays their home opener tonight against the Ponoka Stampeders.

Game time at the Spray Lakes Sawmill Family Sports Centre is 7:30 pm.
