The Airdrie Thunder and Mountainview Colts went about as long as you can before deciding last night's (October 18) Heritage Junior Hockey League game in Airdrie.

The Northern Division rivals were tied 5 - 5 after regulation.  Then overtime couldn't decide a winner so the game went to a shootout.   It too was deadlocked 1 - 1 when Tristan Paquette went in with the game on his stick.  Paquette's shot just squeezed through the pads of Colts goaltender Griffin Andrews and the Thunder had themselves a 6 - 5 victory.

Tyler Petrie had a big night for Airdrie, scoring two goals and adding an assist.  He also scored the first goal in the shootout for the Thunder.

Defending league scoring champion Jordan McConnell was back in the Thunder lineup for the first time this season after being injured and notched a goal and two assists.  Thunder Head Coach Derek Stamp was glad to have McConnell back.

"He stepped in and was generating offensive chances, "said Stamp.  "He was good in the defensive zone and provided leadership on the bench."

The Colts outshot the Thunder 43 - 30 with Airdrie goaltender Jackson Little making 38 saves.

The win improves the Thunder's record to 5 and 3.  The Colts, who still lead the North Division after the loss, are 5 - 1 and 1 on the year.

Tonight the Colts will return home to the Didsbury Rec Complex to face the winless Lomond Lakers in an 8:00 pm game.

Tomorrow afternoon the Thunder are in Stettler to face the 4 and 4 Lightning.  That game gets underway at 3:30 pm.  On Friday night, Airdrie hosts the Strathmore Wheatland Kings.
