The Airdrie Thunder aren't taking Sunday off.

Airdrie hits the road today for a 3:00 pm Heritage Junior Hockey League contest in Ponoka against the Stampeders.

The Thunder need a win to keep pace with Red Deer in the Northern Division after the Vipers pounded Three Hills 8 - 1 last night to move back into sole possession of first place with 43 points.  Airdrie is second with 41 points.  Ponoka has struggled this season winning just six of their 25 games.

Things tightened up even more, if that's possible, in the HJHL Southern Division last night.

The Cochrane Generals moved into a first place tie with High River after the Gens beat Strathmore 3 - 2 and High River lost to the Coaldale Copperheads 5 - 2.  Both teams now have 37 points with Cochrane holding a game in hand.

Coaldale and Okotoks are just one point back of the Generals and the Flyers.
