A devastating motor vehicle collision unfolded on the QEII on the evening of October 23, 2023, near Blackfalds.
Ponoka RCMP was swiftly dispatched to the scene, responding to the incident that occurred in the north-bound lanes of Highway 2, near Township Road 400 in Lacombe County.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the collision involved a semi-truck traveling southbound on Highway 2. In a tragic turn of events, this vehicle veered through the median ditch and cable barrier, entering the northbound lanes and colliding head-on with a northbound pick-up truck. The 57-year-old male driver of the northbound pick-up, a resident of Joffre, lost his life in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As of now, the investigation is ongoing, with authorities working tirelessly to uncover the full details and circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident. The RCMP extends their deepest condolences to the affected families and loved ones during this difficult time.
