The 2023 Airdrie Female Hockey Turkey Bowl is well underway.

Every Airdrie female hockey team takes part in fundraising money and this year it's $500 for each team to donate to the Airdrie Food Bank; so they are able to purchase turkeys for Airdronians in need this Christmas.

Here are the female hockey teams participating in the Turkey Bowl:

  • U9 Red
  • U11 A
  • U13 A
  • U13 AA
  • U15 Tier 2 White
  • U15 Tier 2 Red
  • U15 Teir 1
  • U15 AA
  • U18 A
  • U18 AA

While each team is doing their own way of fundraising the money the U18 A team was at Real Canadian Superstore this past Saturday (November 25).

"Our girls showed up in five different shifts, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and wore their jerseys. They had some bells, posters, and a big jar for donations. The girls asked customers on their way out of the store for a loonie or toonie," stated Kelly Boudreau a mom of a player on the team and organizer of the event.

According to Boudreau the reception they received was amazing.

"It was actually kind of mind-blowing how much people gave, we got a couple of $50 bills from people, lots of fives, 10s and 20s. It worked out really well."

The team was able to reach their goal of $500 for the Airdrie Food Bank.

The official Turkey Bowl event is happening Friday, December 8 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena from 5:15 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. As of right now, the Airdrie Minor Hockey Association is still in the planning process, but Airdronians will get to see a few different competitions and fun events while fundraising for the Airdrie Food Bank.
