Two individuals have been charged after Airdrie RCMP responded to a commercial business in the East Lake area for a break-in, in the early morning hours on Monday, December 5 at 1:30 a.m.

"A male and female suspect entered the business taking keys for two vehicles that were parked outside," stated a police news release. "As officers arrived, the suspects fled in the two stolen vehicles; one being a garbage truck. Officers were able to follow the vehicles as they drove north on the QEII Highway,"

The suspects abandoned the garbage truck near Crossfield and continued to travel north, in the other vehicle, on the QEII Highway. Near Innisfail, officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device and took the suspects into custody.

27-year-old Juan David Gomez, a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with break and enter, mischief over $5,000, theft under $5000, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and failure to comply with release order conditions. The other individual, 32-year-old Tash-Leigh Maceachern, also a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the same offences, though he was not charged with a failure to comply with release order conditions. Maceachern, however, was charged with possession of break-in instruments.

Both were brought before a Justice of the Peace and are being held in custody. Their next court appearance is on Thursday, December 8 in Airdrie.
