Airdrie native Dana Tyrell, of the Tampa Bay Lightning, found out Tuesday that he's done for the season.

Tyrell will require surgery to repair an ACL in his right knee, the same knee that sidelined him from the 2009 World Junior Championships. The injury happened during a home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, when his knee twisted while he was tangled with an opposing player. Tyrell tried to play through the injury, but the team has decided to shut him down for the remainder of the season.

General Manager Steve Yzerman announced Tuesday that they would be without the player Head Coach Guy Boucher referred to as a "beast" earlier this this season.

The former Airdrie Xtreme player registered 5 assists in 26 games this season for the Lightning.
