For the first time in two years, Airdrie's Dana Tyrell will be on the ice with a new hockey team.

The former Airdrie Xtreme and Tampa Bay Lightning made the opening weekend roster for the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL.

Tyrell had previously signed a contract with the Thunder's affiliate team the Bakersfield Condors, but didn't make their final roster, sending him to Wichita.

The last time Tyrell suited up for a team was in the spring of 2015 as a member of the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

After that season, the Falcons relocated to Tucson, Arizona to become the affiliate team for the Arizona Coyotes, but Tyrell wasn't able to sign with the club.

Since getting drafted by Tampa Bay in 2007, Tyrell has spent most of his playing days in the AHL with Norfolk, Syracuse and Springfield.

His last taste of the National Hockey League came in the 2014-2015 season where he played three games for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Tyrell and the Wichita Thunder open their regular season with back to back games tonight and tomorrow (October 13 and 14) against the Indy Fuel.
