On Saturday afternoon, The Town of Carstairs announced that the town is subject to temporary water restrictions due to damage from a tornado that touched down earlier today.

"This temporary water restriction is expected to run from July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2023. Temporary Water Restrictions are in place for the entire Town of Carstairs until the power is restored. No Watering of Lawns or Any Excessive Water Use," a social media post stated from the Town.

Earlier in the day, social media was flooded with dramatic photos and videos of the tornado. While initially, Didsbury RCMP believed that there were injuries, they later clarified that as of Saturday afternoon, no injuries were reported, though there are numerous reports of property damage.

Previously, Fortis Alberta currently listed two power outages, one near Carstairs. However, according to the company's power outage map that power outage has been fixed.

It is unclear whether the Carstairs Canada Day fireworks will go ahead as planned.

Mountain View County announced that a reception center has been established at the Didsbury Memorial Complex (1702 - 21st Avenue) for any residents that have been affected by the tornado situation.

"Residents that require additional assistance are encouraged to attend the reception center between 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Residents do not need to attend the reception center if they do not require assistance at this time," The Town stated on its social media.

The Town also stated that Victim Services is onsite and available to anyone who needs it.

Highway 2A has reopened to the general public, though individuals are still encouraged to avoid the area to allow for cleanup efforts to continue.
