With summer just around the corner, Airdrie streets will be busy with plenty of construction and it could mean some delays for Airdronians commuting back and forth to work.

Here is a list of the work scheduled on Airdrie roads for the summer and into fall so far:

  • Flett Drive -  May 31 - August 31, Currently in phase 1/2 out of 5. The construction is To facilitate deep utility rehabilitation. Phased road closure.
  • 8th Steet, Railway Avenue, Mackenzie Way - June 5 - 7. For tree replacements. Portions of lanes will be closed.
  • Reynolds AV and Coopers BV - June 5 - 15. To facilitate utility tie-ins. Phased road/lane closure.
  • Summerfield Road - May 15 - July 7. Deep utility rehabilitation. Phased alley/road closure.
  • Albert ST Alley - June 1- 9. Install water valves. Alley closure.

Construction is also being planned for Big Springs Drive, Airdronians can expect to see a road closure from July 3 until August 31 to facilitate deep utility rehabilitation.

The 40th Avenue overpass work has its own list of road closures and speed reductions but here are some of the projects being worked on or that are on the horizon.

  • QEII northbound and southbound - June 8-10 and June 12-17. To accommodate cable barrier installation along the median. Inside single-lane closure.
  • 40th Avenue and Southpoint LD-CPR Overpass - May 15 until further notice. Traffic detour onto the new south bridge deck to accommodate construction on the existing north bridge deck. 

As of the beginning of May, the 40th Avenue overpass is still on track and on budget and is set to be completed sometime in October.
