We may have seen the worst that winter has to throw at us before we even officially get out of Fall.

Environment Canada is predicting a milder winter for much of the country, including right here in the Foothills.

Meteorologist, Dan Kulak, says a milder winter doesn't mean we won't have any winter though.

"There has been a fair amount of snow in the southwestern part of the province and we are going to get another weather systems moving through Southern Alberta in the next few days here and maybe a more significant one for the weekend might give us a bit more of a blow to the southwest. But, in general, it hasn't been that cold so far, basically going back to the beginning part of November."

The prediction is the complete opposite of the one issued by The Weather Network back in November, that's predicting a much colder and snowier Winter for Alberta and most of Canada.

Kulak, says it depends on the data and how it's interpreted.

"Different weather providers have different methodologies for looking at things. Sometimes even if you use the same scientific methods, you can get somewhat differing answers, depending on the data that goes into your computer-generated prediction. Environment Canada's is basically suggesting a tendency towards milder weather during the Wintertime."

Winter officially starts on Saturday, December 21.
