Four new doctors as medical clinic opens in Olds
A new medical clinic has opened in Olds, which officials say will expand health care in the community and help attract new physicians. The Care First Medical Clinic, located beside the Co-op grocery store at 5330 46 Street, officially opened on Friday. It will operate with four doctors practising family and geriatric medicine — one full-time and three part-time. A recent Peaks to Prairies Primary Care Network report put Olds’ patient waitlist at 200 unattached residents. The town says having a third clinic with a walk-in option will make that need more manageable and significantly reduce wait times. “We’re really excited about a new offering for Olds,” said Erin Lowe, chair of the Olds & District Physician and Healthcare Attraction and Retention Committee. “Our community is actively working to attract and retain doctors and other health professionals. More clinics means more opportunities.” Mayor Judy Dahl said the clinic is part of the community’s growth. “Olds is a very desirable place to live,” she said. “With growth comes pressures on our health care system and this clinic helps us prepare Olds for the future.” The volunteer recruitment committee says it continues to welcome residents who want to help attract and support new doctors and health-care practitioners and their families.
