It was a reunion of sorts for two Airdrie boys on the ice at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

29-year-old Aaron Dell is the backup goaltender for the San Jose Sharks but got the start last night (February 9) in Edmonton against 26-year-old Ty Rattie, a forward with the Oilers.

In the end, the older got the better of the younger as Dell blocked 21 of the 23 shots fired his way by Rattie and the Oilers in a 5 - 2 San Jose victory.

It was the seventh win of the year for Dell who's also picked up two shutouts.

Rattie took just one of those 23 shots at Dell and was a minus one for the night.  Coincidentally, that's the same performance as Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, although Rattie was only on the ice for eight minutes, compared to just under 21 for McDavid.  The explanation for Rattie's ice time is that he was injured when he blocked a shot near the end of the first period.  Rattie had to be helped from the ice and didn't return for the rest of the game.

Rattie had scored twice in his previous four appearances.

All seven Canadian teams saw action yesterday during Hockey Day in Canada, including the Calgary Flames who lost their second in a row, falling 4 - 3 in a shootout to the Vancouver Canucks.
