It's shaping up as possibly a historic day in the Rocky View High School Football League, and in Alberta High School Football overall.

When the Cochrane Cobras take to Utley Field in Chestermere to play the Lakers later today (September 21), they'll be out to eclipse a nearly two-decade-old record.

A win by the Cobras would be their 40th consecutive victory, breaking the old mark of 39 held by the Raymond Comets who won from the start of the 1997 season and broke their streak with a loss in the 1999 Provincial final.

Last weekend, the Cobras tied the mark when they blew out the Bert Church Chargers, like they have so many other teams over the years, by a 57 - 0 score.

Their 39 wins include all regular season games, exhibitions, and playoff games since their last loss on October 25th, 2014 to the George McDougall Mustangs.  Cochrane has been the Tier Three High School Champions for the past four years.

Chestemere is winless in two games this season.

Kickoff for the potential record-setting game is at 7:00 pm.

There's another game on in the Rocky View League as well today.  At 5:30 pm at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park, the 2 and 1 Bert Church Chargers host the 1 and 1 Springbank Phoenix.
