The Airdrie Elite Midget Lightning are edging ever closer to first place in the South Division of the Alberta Female Hockey League.

The Lightning are now just two points in back of the first place Calgary Fire White who have suffered just one overtime loss in their 11 games in the league this season.  After a pair of wins this weekend, including a thriller on Sunday, the Lightning have 10 wins and 3 losses for 28 points.

Sunday could be considered a character win for Airdrie.  Down 1 - 0 to the Rocky Mountain Raiders the team got a goal with under four minutes to play in the third period from Jennica Wilkie to tie it before Madison Black scored in overtime to give the Lightning a 2 - 1 win.

On Saturday they scored a 4 - 1 victory over the Lethbridge Cyclones.  Both games were on the road.

Friday night the team travels to Red Deer where they'll face the Sutter Fund Chiefs.  On Saturday night comes a showdown with the Fire White starting at 7:30 pm in Genesis Place.
